| The gym at work has a team competition every so often where co-ed groups of 4 compete against each other in a multi-week competition. This particular competition consists of three main parts: 1 - a standard physical challenge where your rank against the other teams determines your points. 2 - a bonus challenge where you get bonus points if everyone on your team completes the random picked challenge for your group. 3- attendance(4 days a week max) Apparently the last competition winners each won $50 gift certificates to sports authority and there are rumors its at $100. So my team didn't think we could compare to the huge guys in the gym but we decided to do it anyway.
Week 1 competition: every member runs their fastest mile on the treadmill and the cumulative times are counted for the competition. My time: 6:30 ( i was dizzy and nauseous for the rest of the day ) Week 1 challenge: 40 pushups in one min ( not as bad as i thought it would be, did it in 40 secs ) Somehow at the end of week 1 we were in first place so we decided to push ourselves from then on since we realized we had a chance.
Week 2 competition: Military shoulder press machine half your weight. 25 reps ( not that impressive ) Week 2 challenge: jump on an off a platform about 1ft high for 2 mins ( felt like jump exercises, not hard though )
Week 3 competition: 3 chances to throw a kickball at different cones worth different points. i did ok.. Week 3 challenge: 50 pushups in one min!!! ( the people at the gym said the group that did it the first week did it too quickly so they added 10 more pushups.........that was us!!!!, most of us still did it in about 45secs though )
Week 4 competition: Bike 2 miles as fast as you can. 5:25 ( hooray 60 mile MS bike tour, however both me and my friend cramped up while walking to get water. we were in pain and laughing on the floor at the same time because it happened at the same time. ) Week 4 challenge: 40 pushups with your feet elevated on an exercise ball in one min. ( No harder than regular pushups, just have to be controlled. unfortunately a team member fell off and we got no bonus )
Week 5 competition: upright chest press machine half your weight. 45 reps (two guys got 80 reps, but they were also twice my size) Week 5 challenge: "mountain climbers" for 90 seconds. imagine being in pushup position then shuffling your legs and feet as if you're climbing a mountain or on a stair climber. not too hard but the same guy that failed the pushups decided to do these after working out his legs and failed. seriously.....
Week 6(final): TBD. currently after week 4 we are in second place with 1% less than the 1st place team. but we know the first place team and its the same guys that got 80 reps on the chest press so we don't expect to pass them this week. we only gain ground on them on the speed challenges, so hopefully its a shuttle run or something next week. or maybe if my dumb teammate didn't fail the challenge two weeks in a row.
At first we were like, no more pushups!!! but then we heard one group had to do 2 mins of constantly using a hula hoop with only dropping it 3 times. that's the most feared challenge, we rather do 50 pushups, haha.
i want a new volleyball. and going to the gym 4 days a week for 5 weeks so far is more tiring than i thought.
